Christina Gilbert

Christie is a native of southern California who moved to Tulsa in 1997. She attended Chaffey College, where she received her teaching certificate, and has been teaching for fourteen years. Christie recently received her Director’s Bronze Credential and is a level 2 on the career development ladder through the Center for Early Childhood Professional development.

Christie taught at Carnegie Elementary for four years in the special education/multi- disabilities program. She still maintains close contact with the faculty and administration. Before moving to Tulsa, she taught Kindergarten for ten years.

Christie is the School Age Program Director here at New Haven. In addition to directing the School Age Program, she also teaches the Kindergarten Enrichment classes. She has worked this program for six years and developed New Haven’s first Summer Camp Program for school age children. In addition, Christie developed and directs the Annual New Haven Talent Show which is presented to our school age families. Christie is involved in numerous community outreach projects and provides opportunities for the children to become involved as well.

Continuing her joy of teaching, Christie has presented numerous workshops for Friends of Early Childhood Education, OECTA and at numerous conferences sponsored by Friends and Tulsa Early Childhood Association. Christie was awarded with the Friends Top Ten Award in 2001 for her outstanding contribution to children and exemplary work in the field of early childhood education. This year Christie plans to complete her School Age Certificate at Tulsa Technology Center.

Christie, her husband Richard, and their son Tony are members of New Haven United Methodist Church. Christie sings in the new contemporary music group, the Sojourners, every Sunday morning.

In her free time, Christie likes to scrapbook with pictures taken of her family and friends, and the children in her class. She also loves to spend time with her niece, Alyssa, and her two dogs, Lady Dog and Mocha Lee. These two are fondly considered her “other children”. She also spends time tutoring children who need help in reading and phonics. Tutoring for the past seven years has allowed Christie to keep in touch with what she vows is the most important thing a child learns, which is reading.

Christie would like to work in partnership with you and your child to better prepare them for their most special and memorable year of school. She hopes this year at New Haven will be an exciting and enriching experience for both you and your child.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call her at 742-6781 or reach her my e-mail at Christie@newhavendayschool.org.

The staff has ongoing training in the fundamentals of Early Childhood Development through scheduled workshops and other educational opportunities. In addition, all faculty are certified in First Aid, CPR, and Food Handling. Many teachers have a long tenure at New Haven Day School, and most are degreed or certified in Education.
