Preschool classes are available for three- and four-year-olds and for five-year-olds who are not going to kindergarten yet.
Threes and Fours
Preschoolers are becoming aware of the world
around them. They are capable of self-directed activities and can participate
in group activities. Emphasis is on the development of the individual child
as he/she operates in a group.
Preschool classrooms are set up as learning centers
in which children make choices and work together. In this environment, the teacher
is a facilitator who encourages child-centered activities, including:
Fine motor and gross motor activities
Hands-on problem solving and exploration at learning centers
Music, songs, dramatic play, and puppetry
Reading and storytelling
Increased group participation and games
Art,
science, and math activities
Self-help
skills, including hand-washing, opening lunches, table manners, bathroom skills,
and putting on and zipping coats
Teachers plan curriculum around central themes, such as seasons, family, and
the world
Teacher-pupil ratio is 1 adult to 10 children.
Exploration Pre-K
This multi-age, multi-level class is designed for children who are not going
to kindergarten because of chronological age or developmental readiness.
This class focuses on extended skill development , the child’s intellectual
and emotional growth, and increased large group socialization.
Teacher-pupil ratio is 1 adult to 12 children.
