 Jan Davis
Jan is an early childhood music specialist who is on her fourth year of teaching at New Haven Day School. She has a bachelor’s degree in music education from Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS, and a graduate certificate in Kodaly (19 hours of early education and elementary music methodology) from Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, WI. At Silver Lake she studied with John Feierabend, director of the National Center for Music and Movement in the Early Years and creator of the First Steps in Music curriculum.
Prior to moving to Tulsa, Miss Jan spent six years teaching band, choir, and elementary music in public schools in the panhandle. She started teaching music preschool and early childhood music in 2000. She has taught music to literally every age from newborn to adult.
Jan is a handbell soloist who performs weddings, meetings, and in concerts. She is a member of Tulsa Festival Ringers and has taught handbell choir at Oral Roberts University. She is currently the contemporary worship leader at New Haven UMC, where she sings and plays bass guitar. Miss Jan also plays piano and clarinet. Jan performed in many different musical ensembles in college, including band, percussion ensemble, chamber choir, jazz band and combo, and vocal jazz. She was principal clarinet in both the Hays Symphony and the wind ensemble.
Jan is married to Shannon Davis, senior pastor at New Haven UMC. They have three children. Jacob, a fourth grader at Carnegie, is an active member of Tulsa Boy Singers. Solomon spent three years at New Haven Day School and is now a Kindergartner in Senor B’s class at Zarrow International. Eli, who is 20 months, is enjoying his third year at NHDS.
